GST on medicines and pharma products

Most medicines in India fall under the 5% or 12% GST slab, with some products at 18%. Whether you are a stockist, retailer or PCD franchise owner, you need to add GST to a base price for billing, or remove GST from an inclusive price to find the base — and split the tax correctly into CGST + SGST for sales within your state, or IGST for sales to another state. This calculator does all of that.

How GST is calculated

  • Add GST: GST amount = Base × GST% ; Total = Base + GST
  • Remove GST: Base = Total ÷ (1 + GST%) ; GST = Total − Base
  • Same state: CGST = SGST = GST ÷ 2
  • Other state: full amount is IGST

Worked example

Base ₹1,000 · GST 12% · same state
GST = ₹120 → CGST ₹60 + SGST ₹60
Total = ₹1,120

CGST, SGST and IGST — what’s the difference?

For a sale within the same state, GST is split equally into Central GST (CGST) and State GST (SGST). For a sale to a buyer in a different state, the same total tax is charged as a single Integrated GST (IGST). The total tax is the same either way; only the split on the invoice changes. Getting this right matters for correct billing and input-tax credit.

Why removing GST matters for pricing

MRP includes GST, so to work out true trade prices like PTR and PTS you must first strip the GST out. Use “Remove GST” mode here to get the GST-exclusive base from any inclusive amount, then apply your margins.
