Albaquin 20% Cream — Monobenzone from Puneet Laboratories (Mumbai)
Prescription-only. Albaquin contains monobenzone, a prescription depigmenting agent indicated for extensive vitiligo (>50% body surface area). It is not a cosmetic skin lightener. We dispense only against a valid Rx — see our prescription policy.
What is Albaquin?
Albaquin is the leading Indian-manufactured brand of monobenzone cream. It is produced by Puneet Laboratories Pvt. Ltd., based in Mumbai, India, and contains the same FDA-approved active ingredient — monobenzone USP 20% — that was in the discontinued Benoquin brand. Clinically, Albaquin is the most direct equivalent to original Benoquin available today.
The brand is widely stocked at Indian retail pharmacies including Apollo Pharmacy and 1mg, which makes Puneet’s product line verifiable and traceable. For international patients, that retail visibility matters — you’re not ordering a no-name compound from an opaque source.

How Albaquin works
Albaquin’s active ingredient is monobenzone (monobenzyl ether of hydroquinone, MBEH). When applied topically, it is taken up by melanocytes — the pigment-producing cells in normally pigmented skin — and selectively destroys them. As melanocytes are eliminated from the treated areas, the skin loses its ability to make melanin and progressively lightens to match the surrounding depigmented vitiligo patches.
The process is gradual and irreversible. Full depigmentation of treated areas typically takes 6 to 12 months with twice-daily application at 20% strength. For the mechanism in detail, see our depigmentation therapy guide.
Who is Albaquin for?
Albaquin is appropriate for patients who:
- Have a confirmed diagnosis of extensive vitiligo (typically >50% body surface area)
- Have been counselled by a dermatologist about the permanence of treatment
- Have a treatment plan that includes lifelong sun protection of treated skin
- Have a valid prescription for monobenzone 20%
Albaquin is not for cosmetic skin lightening, small-patch vitiligo, or unsupervised home use. Misuse causes permanent loss of pigment in unintended areas.

FAQ
Is Albaquin the same as Benoquin?
Pharmacologically, yes — both contain monobenzone USP 20%. Benoquin was the US brand (discontinued by Valeant around 2008); Albaquin is the Puneet Laboratories Indian brand of the same active ingredient at the same concentration.
Does Albaquin work for small vitiligo patches?
No — and it shouldn’t be used that way. Monobenzone is indicated for extensive (>50% BSA) vitiligo. For smaller patches, repigmentation therapies are the standard of care.
Is Albaquin legal to import into the US/UK/EU with a prescription?
For most jurisdictions, yes, under personal-importation rules. See our FDA personal-importation guide for details.
What concentration does Albaquin come in?
20%. For 40% strength, see Uniqueen Plus.
