Important. Monobenzone cream is a prescription-only medication intended for the treatment of extensive vitiligo (typically affecting more than 50% of body surface area). It is not a cosmetic skin lightener. Everything on this page is for educational and ordering information; it is not medical advice. Please read our prescription policy before ordering.
If you have a dermatologist’s prescription for monobenzone and you’re shopping for the best combination of price, quality and shipping reliability, India is now the most practical source in the world. The original US Benoquin brand was discontinued by Valeant/ICN around 2008, and US compounded versions cost $80 to $200 or more per tube. Indian manufacturers produce the same active ingredient — pharmaceutical-grade monobenzone USP 20% — at a small fraction of that price, and several brands have built export track records to North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and South-East Asia.
This page is a working buyer’s guide. It lists the four brands EL.V. Life Sciences supplies, what each one contains, what makes it different, and roughly what you should expect to pay manufacturer-direct. Prices are indicative bands, not final invoices — quantity and destination affect the final number.
Why patients now order monobenzone from India
The short version of the supply story: Benoquin (manufactured by ICN, later Valeant) was the only US-FDA-approved brand-name monobenzone cream. It was voluntarily discontinued for commercial reasons — not safety — and has not been replaced by another branded product on the US market. Compounded versions are still produced by specialty US pharmacies, but availability is intermittent, insurance rarely covers depigmentation therapy, and the price routinely lands between $80 and $200 per 30 g tube.
Indian manufacturers, by contrast, never stopped producing monobenzone. The Indian pharma industry exports to over 200 countries and operates a parallel ecosystem of WHO-GMP-certified plants that supply the same molecule globally. The active ingredient, monobenzone USP, is identical to what was in the original Benoquin — no clinical difference, no formulation gap.
The result is a price band that looks impossible by Western standards: comparable 20 g tubes of Albaquin can cost approximately $4 to $8 manufacturer-direct from India. With international shipping included, the total landed cost is still a fraction of US compounded pricing.

Is it legal to order monobenzone from India?
For most jurisdictions, the answer is yes, with a valid prescription, for a personal supply.
The US FDA operates a personal-importation policy that permits an individual to import a personal-use supply (typically up to about 90 days) of an unapproved drug for a serious condition, provided you affirm in writing that it’s for personal use and a US-licensed physician is responsible for your treatment. Diagnosed extensive vitiligo qualifies as a serious condition under this framework.
The UK MHRA, Canadian Health Canada, EU national authorities and most Middle East / African / South-East Asian regulators have broadly comparable personal-import carve-outs. The common requirements are: a valid prescription, reasonable personal quantity, and a willingness to provide documentation if customs requests it. We ship every order with a commercial invoice, certificate of analysis (COA), and a prescription cover letter to support clearance.
We’ve published full guides on the specifics: FDA personal-importation for monobenzone (US) and importing monobenzone legally in UK, EU, MEA and SE Asia.
The brands we supply
All four brands listed below contain the same active ingredient — monobenzone USP — manufactured under WHO-GMP standards. The differences are formulation specifics, pack sizes, manufacturer reputation and price band.
1. Albaquin 20% Cream (Puneet Laboratories, Mumbai)
Albaquin is the most widely-recognised Indian brand of monobenzone and is positioned as a direct generic equivalent to the discontinued Benoquin 20%. It’s manufactured by Puneet Laboratories in Mumbai, which exports broadly across Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
- Strength: Monobenzone USP 20% w/w
- Pack size: 20 g laminated aluminium tube
- Manufacturer: Puneet Laboratories Pvt Ltd, Mumbai
- Indicative manufacturer-direct price band: ~$5–8 per tube (ex-works India; shipping, insurance and minimum order quantity extra)
- Why patients pick it: Long track record, widely stocked, and one of the cheapest reliable options in the market. Available at Indian retail pharmacies including Apollo and 1mg, which makes it easy for any dermatologist who knows the Indian market to verify.

2. Uniqueen Monobenzone 20% Cream (Unique Pharma, Mehsana)
Uniqueen is manufactured by Unique Pharma & International (Unique Lab & Research Centre) in Mehsana, Gujarat. The brand is positioned at a slightly higher tier than Albaquin and offers a micronized formulation of monobenzone — finer particle size which the manufacturer claims improves absorption and uniformity of application.
- Strength: Micronized monobenzone 20%
- Pack size: 30 g tube or 100 g jar (good for patients treating large body surface areas)
- Manufacturer: Unique Pharma & International, Mehsana, Gujarat (established 2013)
- Indicative manufacturer-direct price band: ~$35–45 per 100 g jar
- Why patients pick it: Larger pack sizes make the per-gram cost competitive for extensive treatment regimens; micronized formulation is preferred by some dermatologists.

3. Uniqueen Plus / Benoquin 40% (Unique Pharma)
The 40% strength is an off-label, higher-concentration option that some dermatologists prescribe when the standard 20% response has been slow or insufficient. It can shorten the time to visible depigmentation — patient reports and small case series suggest visible lightening in 4 to 8 weeks compared to 6 to 12 months for 20%.
- Strength: Monobenzone 40% w/w
- Pack size: 30 g or 100 g
- Manufacturer: Unique Pharma & International
- Indicative price: On request — specialist supply
- Important caveat: 40% is more likely to cause skin irritation than 20%. It should only be used under active dermatological supervision. Read our 20% vs 40% comparison before requesting this strength.

4. Generic Benoquin 20% Cream (EL.V. Life Sciences / partner manufacturers)
Our own house-grade generic Benoquin is manufactured at a WHO-GMP-certified plant in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, against USP specifications. It’s chemically identical to the discontinued Valeant Benoquin 20% formulation.
- Strength: Monobenzone USP 20% w/w
- Pack size: 20 g or 30 g laminated tube
- Manufacturer: EL.V. Life Sciences (Baddi, Himachal Pradesh)
- Indicative price band: Best-value option in the range; final price depends on quantity
- Certifications: WHO-GMP, ISO 9001:2015, COA issued with every batch
- Why patients pick it: Direct from manufacturer means no intermediate margin, and you can request batch-level COA before payment.

Which strength is right — 20% or 40%?
20% is the FDA-approved standard and what most dermatologists prescribe first. Full depigmentation of treated areas typically takes 6 to 12 months with twice-daily application. It has the most clinical evidence behind it and the lowest irritation risk.
40% is a stronger, off-label option for patients who have already tried 20% and want faster results, or whose dermatologist has determined the 20% response is inadequate. Visible lightening can appear in 4 to 8 weeks — but irritation, dryness and burning at application sites are more common. It should never be self-prescribed; the strength shift should always be made on a dermatologist’s advice.

Frequently asked questions
Do I really need a prescription? Can’t I just order it? Yes, you really need one. We do not dispatch monobenzone without a valid prescription from a registered dermatologist or physician. This protects you — monobenzone has serious, irreversible effects and is not safe without medical supervision — and it protects our supply chain.
Will customs hold my package? Holds are uncommon when documentation is complete, but not impossible. We ship with a commercial invoice, COA and prescription cover letter to support clearance. If a hold does occur, we assist with documentation. Our shipping policy covers the refund and reshipment process.
Are these brands really equivalent to Benoquin? Pharmacologically, yes. All four contain monobenzone USP — the same active ingredient that was in the original Valeant Benoquin formulation. Manufacturer and excipient details vary, but the depigmenting mechanism and clinical effect are the same.
Can I order both 20% and 40% in the same shipment? Yes, if both are on your prescription. Many dermatologists prescribe 20% for sensitive areas (face) and 40% for stubborn areas (hands, elbows) — we can supply both.
How much should I order? That’s a question for your dermatologist. As rough guidance: a patient applying 20% cream twice daily to face and forearms typically uses 30 to 60 g per month. Personal-import limits in many countries are about 90 days’ supply — so a 3-month order is usually within the customs comfort zone.
Can my dermatologist write the prescription if monobenzone isn’t routinely stocked in my country? Yes. Dermatologists can write prescriptions for medications that need to be imported as long as the medication is appropriate for your diagnosis. The Rx does not need to be on a country-specific format — a standard prescription identifying you, the drug, the strength and the directions is sufficient.
What if I’m not sure which brand to choose? Tell us in the form, or message us on WhatsApp. We’ll ask what your dermatologist prescribed and suggest the best match. We don’t push higher-margin options — we want repeat orders, which only happens if the first one works for you.
