United Kingdom — MHRA

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) is the UK’s drug regulator. The personal-import position is straightforward:

• A patient may import a personal-use supply of a prescribed medication
• The standard quantity allowance is up to 3 months’ supply
• A valid prescription from a UK-registered GP or dermatologist is required
• The medication must be for the patient’s own use

Border Force occasionally requests documentation when a pharmaceutical shipment arrives. The standard ask is the prescription and an affirmation that the medication is for personal use.

Practical advice for UK patients:

• Get a prescription on standard NHS or private letterhead
• Order 60–90g of cream at a time (well within 3-month supply)
• Pay any VAT and Royal Mail handling fee that may apply on the declared value
• Keep the original prescription and a copy of the order documentation for 12 months

Specialist UK compounding is available through some private pharmacies but typically costs £100+ per tube. Indian-imported supply is roughly 1/10 to 1/20 of that price.

European Union member states

The EU operates under a harmonised pharmaceutical framework but personal-importation specifics vary by member state. Common features:

• A valid prescription from an EU-licensed physician is universally required
• “Personal-use” quantities are interpreted similarly (typically up to 3 months)
• Customs at the destination member state handles the clearance — there is no separate EU-wide customs process
• Some member states charge VAT and a small clearance fee on the declared value

Member states with consistently smooth import experience for monobenzone:

• Germany — solid track record, customs straightforward when prescription accompanies the shipment
• France — comparable
• Netherlands — comparable; smaller VAT threshold means more shipments cleared without VAT
• Italy — comparable

Member states with more friction:

• Allow 2–3 extra days for customs in member states with stricter screening
• Where VAT applies, budget for an additional ~15–25% of the declared value

Republic of Ireland

Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) is the Irish regulator. Treatment is similar to the UK pattern — personal supply with prescription, up to 3 months. Less common destination than mainland Europe but well-served by carriers from India.

Middle East

The Middle East is a more variable picture. The key principle: many countries here require an advance import permit for personal use of prescription medication, even with a valid prescription.

United Arab Emirates — Ministry of Health and Prevention. Personal imports of prescription medications require pre-approval through the Ministry’s electronic personal-import system. We help patients with the application. Allow 2–3 weeks for the permit. Once granted, the import is smooth.

Saudi Arabia — Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) operates a personal-import permit system. Similar requirements. Allow 2–3 weeks for the permit.

Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman — Varies. Qatar generally permits personal supply with prescription; others may require advance permission. We confirm requirements at the point of order for each country.

Israel — Israeli Ministry of Health permits personal supply with prescription, generally up to 3 months. Comparable to EU pattern.

Practical advice for Middle East patients:

• Tell us your destination country at the point of inquiry — we’ll confirm whether advance permit is required
• For UAE/Saudi, allow extra time (3–4 weeks total) on first order; subsequent orders are faster
• Some destinations charge customs duty in addition to VAT; we declare honestly so calculation is correct

Africa

Established export routes from India serve much of Africa. Country-specific rules vary, but most permit personal import of prescription medication.

Nigeria — NAFDAC oversees pharmaceuticals. Personal import with prescription is permitted. Customs documentation handled in the same way as other destinations.

Kenya — Pharmacy and Poisons Board. Personal supply allowed with prescription.

South Africa — SAHPRA regulates. Personal import of registered medications generally permitted; monobenzone is a registered active ingredient.

Australia and New Zealand

Both countries operate explicit, well-documented personal-import schemes:

Australia — TGA Personal Importation Scheme

• The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) permits personal supply of unapproved medications under specific conditions
• A signed personal-import declaration is required
• Quantity: up to a 3-month supply
• A valid prescription from an Australian-registered medical practitioner is required
• Importing for resale or further supply is not permitted

New Zealand — Medsafe

• New Zealand’s Medicines Act permits personal import of prescribed medications
• Up to 3 months’ supply
• Prescription from an NZ-registered doctor
• Comparable framework to Australia’s TGA Scheme

Philippines — Food and Drug Administration permits personal supply with prescription. Established route from India.

Malaysia — National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency. Personal supply with prescription permitted.

Indonesia — BPOM. Generally permits personal supply with prescription.

Thailand — Food and Drug Administration. Personal supply with prescription generally permitted.

Vietnam — Personal import permitted with prescription, but smaller quantity thresholds — typically up to a 30-day supply.

Practical advice for SE Asia patients:

• Verify the specific permit requirement for your country before first order
• Singapore and Vietnam are the strictest of the SE Asia markets; budget extra time
• Most other SE Asia destinations are straightforward with the standard documentation pack

• You can get the medication for comparable cost from a local pharmacy. In some countries (e.g. parts of India retail, occasional EU member states with local compounding) monobenzone is available locally at acceptable cost. Personal import is most useful where local cost is prohibitive.
• You can’t reliably receive deliveries. If your address has unreliable delivery, customs clearance becomes a significant complication.
• Your country has a confirmed ban on monobenzone import for any purpose. Rare, but inquire — we don’t want to waste your time or our shipping costs.

Frequently asked questions

Will my country’s customs know what monobenzone is? Yes, in essentially all destinations we ship to. Monobenzone is a recognised pharmaceutical product (the original Benoquin brand was internationally known) and the active ingredient appears on standard pharmaceutical databases.
